Daffodils on Main Street
The Daffodils you see in the center of High Falls each Spring are the result of an idea of Carole Eppley, High Falls Conservancy President. In 2017, Carole called a group of volunteers to start planting daffodils along our Main Street. Although some worried that the bulbs would not take hold on such a busy highway, Carole persevered, and the loyal group of Conservancy volunteers planted 100 bulbs that year. The Conservancy has planted approximately 400 bulbs every fall since then, and as of 2022, over 2,100 bulbs have been planted.
Carole’s idea has taken hold, and each year volunteers dig through the notorious item four gravel, that requires plenty of elbow grease. They add fertilizer to the newly planted bulbs, and do not plant where construction is planned or ongoing.
As you enjoy the beauty of these “Trumpets of Spring", always remember that each daffodil has been planted to honor or remember a loved one. Each one has been donated by a member or friend of our community. We are pleased that residents and passersby in High Falls have preserved these flowers that were lovingly placed there. One person told us that when they are in bloom, "High Falls looks like Johnny Appleseed was here."
