BOOK PARTY

We celebrated the publication of the Conservancy’s Third Annual Book, this book features four dynamic High Falls women, each with an amazing story. We honored Sue Paterson, Harriet Weber, Grace Moon, and Sarah Stitham. Original works of art by our Cover Artist Chris Suebert were on display. The Conservancy’s Annual Book is free to all, so plan to pick up a copy at your local stores, or contact us directly.
FIRST ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY CLEANUP AND DAFFODIL PLANTING​

Our first “clean up” day in connection with the Adopt-A-Highway program, took place on October 21, and Conservancy volunteers planted approximately 500 daffodil bulbs at special locations along the Main Street. We look forward to seeing the results of these plantings in the spring of 2018.
BRIDGES OF HIGH FALLS EXHIBIT

The High Falls Conservancy, in collaboration with Wired Gallery and the High Falls Emporium, presented THE BRIDGES OF HIGH FALLS – a multi-media art and story event.
The Exhibit enjoyed a high level of attendance throughout its open schedule, from February 11 to May 15. Due to popular demand, the exhibit was extended to July8, the opening day of the new bridge. The exhibit included:

- Large piece of ironwork from under the old (1939) bridge, tagged with two graffiti pieces.
- History of graffiti and pictures of other tags under the old bridge, now gone
- Maps, Photos, and history of every bridge crossing the Rondout into High Falls at this location.
- Original Nameplates from the old bridge
- Continuous loop of all construction including demolition of the old bridge
- Children from Grade Two at the Marbletown Elementary School visited the exhibit as part of their Community Awareness Program; they responded to the exhibit by making drawings of the old and new bridge. These were added to the exhibit for the June 8th celebration of New Bridge Opening Day.
STORIES OF HIGH FALLS GATHERINGS

In September 2016 we published our first installation of “Stories of High Falls” in our Annual Booklet. These were so well received that we decided to expand our “Stories” project to include three special gatherings at the Bridges Exhibit. The themes of these gatherings were 1) “High Falls –Center of the Universe”, 2) “Bread & Circuses” and 3) “Eccentrics”. Each evening brought together many people whose lives make up the rich tapestry that is High Falls. All three gatherings were well-attended, and all persons agreed there should be more such “Stories of High Falls” gatherings.
SAYING GOODBYE TO OUR OLD FRIEND, THE 1939 TRUSS BRIDGE

The day before the old bridge closed, a hearty group of Conservators gathered in a frosty January afternoon to say an official "Good-bye" to our old High Falls Bridge, soon to see its last day. Here we are in a bit of mist, to say "Bye – Bye High Falls Bridge, 1-2-17”. Our celebration was made complete with refreshments provided by Suzanne Paterson. A final pass over the 78 year old span by the High Falls Fire Department added to the short but festive “GOOD BYE” to the bridge on the day before it was to be closed forever.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE 2016 GARDEN FAIR

Our Second Annual Garden Fair was held Saturday, September 10, and Sunday, September 11, at the Field and Barn, High Falls. Davenport Farms and Saunderskill Farm Market each provided our guests with delicious cider doughnuts and there was cider and coffee for everyone. David Gonzalez provided a special impromptu treat with a reading of his poem “Earthly Tavern”, his tribute to Richard Murphy and his wonderful Eggs Nest.

Exhibitors included Bloom Fine Gardening, Carl Cox Studios, Cornell Extension Master Gardner Program, Deer Defeat, Downtown Antiques, Postmark Bookstore, Stars of the Meadow, Stone Ridge Orchard, Sweetpea, Victoria Gardens, and Zimmer Gardens.
Our Garden Speakers schedule included presentations by Carl Cox “Growing Your Garden Photography Skills”, Scott Zimmer, “Fall Container Gardens Demonstration”, Victoria Coyne, “Color in the Fall Garden – So Much More Than Mums”, Ethan Zickler, “Beginning Permaculture”, and Rose Unes, “Let’s Talk Dirt.”
The Hudson Valley Seed Library generously donated five of their commissioned artwork posters that were taken home by lucky winners of our benefit raffle.
Our thanks to Carl Cox, of Carl Cox Studios, Rosendale, who provided excellent coverage of our Garden Fair with his photographs, in addition to his presentations on “Growing our Garden Photography Skills”.
